My 90lb dog ate Zantac while on Apoquel. What should I do now?

However, there was a study were dogs received 6 times the normal dose for several weeks and mostly only gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting, diarrhea and inappetence were observed. I think that Tippy is most likely going to be just fine though keep a close eye on her and if any of the clinical signs described above are observed, have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Hello. I am sorry your question was not addressed earlier. If this was an accidental overdose, then hopefully you have taken Zeydl to the emergency clinic for treatment. If she takes the zantac for therapeutic reasons, it is unlikely to be causing a problem as it has a good safety profile. She may need to see your veterinarian tomorrow to see why she is not feeling well. I hope all is well soon. Take care.

Well that's not good! Overdose is uncommon but it can produce excitement, seizures, lethargy, comas, and respiratory depression. More than likely, Zoey will be more sedate than usual, but if you see any of those signs I mentioned above, take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

Ondansetron (Zofran) can cause constipation and atrial fibrillation even at normal doses. A normal dose would be 0.5mg to 1mg/kg twice daily, so your dog clearly got an overdose. This may be detrimental, but possibly also not. Based on the amount Ginger ate, 200mg is around four times the maximum dose for proxetil. When a dog has an overdose of this drug, it causes vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, and bruising easily. While there have been safety studies showing the drug well-tolerated in dogs given 10 times the maximum dose, every dog does react different and it's best that she is evaluated and treated by a vet right away. I'd recommend taking her into an ER vet now for treatment to be safe. Because I can't see her in person to say for certain she will be ok, I will always recommend immediate treatment in these cases. Simparica has a wide margin of safety, but Abby ingested 4 times her normal dose. You may see tremors or convulsions within the next 24 hours. These symptoms are typically self limiting and, in safety studies, resolved without treatment. Ideally, she should be examined at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection followed by administration of activated charcoal to further reduce absorption. This is most effective when done within an hour or two of ingestion. There is no antidote for sarolaner (the active ingredient in Simparica) overdose, so treatment is largely supportive and symptomatic until recovery is complete. This may include IV fluids and medications to control tremors or convulsions if they develop.

Most OTC antihistamines can be used in dogs; however you should never give any medications to your dog without the advice of your veterinarian. Allergies can be frustrating to diagnose since they can have multiple causes (inhaled, food, contact). Schedule an appointment with your veterinarian. Discuss food elimination trials and allergy testing and if antihistamine use is indicated, he or she can give you a proper dose, The medication may provide some relief but your task is to try to determine what your dog is allergic to and decrease or eliminate it. Monitor her for side effects including lethargy and weakness, and if you see those signs, have her seen by a vet right away. Best of luck.
