My chihuahuas ate white chocolate. Is eating it harmful for dogs?

Pepe will likely be fine unless he is unusually sensitive. White chocolate has the lowest concentration of the chocolates. He may experience some vomiting or diarrhea or he may have no signs at all. To be safe, watch for signs of toxicity such as tremoring, seizures and hyper excitability. If you want to be proactive in regards to possible GI upset, you can feed him a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled white rice tonight and tomorrow morning. It does matter that it is white chocolate - fortunately white chocolate is not toxic! It could cause some mild stomach upset so if Xina vomits or develops diarrhea I’d recommend seeing your vet. Otherwise no treatment is required.

Luckily white chocolate does not contain as much of the substances that can be toxic to dogs (Caffeine and theobromine) as can be found in other types of chocolate, so I'm hoping this should not be a significant health problem, however it could cause some issues based on how much Mung ate. If vomiting or diarrhea develops, or you notice a decrease in appetite or energy, I recommend you have Mung seen by a vet. This small amount of chocolate should not cause any toxic effects in your dog (only 2 to 3 chips). If your dog has a very sensitive GI tract she could have some stomach upset (i.e. diarrhea) but it is unlikely with that few chips being ingested.

A check up is needed, considering her weight. Probably your vet will make her sick and give some meds to decrease gastro-intestinal absorption. Signs of chocolate intoxication should be minimal anyway, given that the cupcake's content is white fudge and not milk/dark chocolate. Expect gastrointestinal signs like vomiting , diarrhoea.

Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The main concern in chocolate is the cocoa itself, and there is very little cocoa in white chocolate. I don't see in your profile what type of pet you have, but if it's a dog or cat they will likely be fine. Watch for signs of GI upset, as that can happen with any kind of new food (especially with higher fat content) but I suspect they'll be fine. However, I would recommend sticking with healthier treats to share with your pet and keeping ice cream and chocolate for yourself :-) Hope this helps!
