My dog ate a small amount of white chocolate ice cream. Is he okay?

Pepe will likely be fine unless he is unusually sensitive. White chocolate has the lowest concentration of the chocolates. He may experience some vomiting or diarrhea or he may have no signs at all. To be safe, watch for signs of toxicity such as tremoring, seizures and hyper excitability. If you want to be proactive in regards to possible GI upset, you can feed him a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled white rice tonight and tomorrow morning. The amount of chocolate in these ice creams are pretty slim, so if he just licked a little bit he should be fine. He might throw up a little and may have some diarrhea later.

I bet Luna enjoyed the ice cream! Fortunately, I would not expect this to cause any problems aside from possibly an upset stomach - there isn't enough chocolate in this ice cream to worry about toxicity issues. She may have some mild diarrhea or vomiting over the next 12-24 hours, but otherwise should be just fine.

I think Chewy had himself a snack! No it should not cause any harm. If he has a really sensitive gut, it might make some diarrhea for a day. But I doubt even that is going to happen. Since ice cream has a lot of sugar, some of his gut bacteria might have a field day with gas production......sooooo that may be a temporary side effect.

If you still have the ice cream container, check the label for chocolate or cocoa content. This is needed to calculate how much chocolate or cocoa your dog ingested. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dogs typically do not have a complete intolerance to dairy, but as it is not a mainstay of their dietary needs, it can cause GI upset. I typically do not recommend giving dogs straight milk, and lower sugar ice creams can have artificial sugars (such as xylitol) which are toxic to dogs. Regular ice cream or cheese can be fine in small amounts but it based on each individual animal. If you want to give your dog anything dairy as a small treat, only start with one thing in very small amounts to see how Brody tolerates it and ensure he doesn't develop any vomiting/diarrhea.
