My dog ate wet canned food left out for 10 hours. Will she get sick?

That's not good! he might throw up and have a little diarrhea but it is unlikely to cause any further toxicity as dogs have very strong acids in their stomach which can kill most molds. Do monitor him in the 24 hours to make sure he is ok, probably give him smaller meals as well, if he is throwing up more than a couple times call the vet.

Your dog will probably be ok, as dogs often eat stinky food they buried a long time before eating it. Watch your dog for vomiting and diarrhea and when this happens, take Russ off food for 12 hrs., then feed him some bland food such as boiled white rice with boiled boneless white chicken meat in several small feeds over the day. The next day start replacing small portions of the rice mix with his regular food. Do this for about two days until all the rice and chicken is replaced with his regular food. If he still vomits or has diarrhea, you need to take him to your vet for treatment.

Canned dog foods usually have preservatives in them to prevent spoiling regardless of temperature. So this should be fine. If it is a refrigerated food then I would be concerned it may have spoiled. Especially if the cans were hot to the touch when you retrieved them.

If he is behaving normally otherwise, you can typically manage him at home with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. It can be difficult to recognize when food has spoiled, and there have been many food recalls lately for various problems like salmonella or other contaminants in food that could make your dog sick but wouldn’t be obviously detectable in the food. I would recommend sticking to foods that are produced by manufacturers with good quality control in place like Hill’s, Purina and Royal Canin. I would also recommend avoiding raw diets since there is potential for salmonella contamination. In general you should keep food at room temperature or a cool, dry place in a tightly sealed metal container or you can place the original bag in a plastic container. Make sure you buy a bag that your dog can eat in 4-6 weeks or the oils could become rancid.
