My dog ate tuna and vomited. Is he sick or just has an upset stomach?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 5 months and 26 days old | 15 lbs

My dog ate tuna and threw up twice, is playing with toys lightly but acting different. I'm not too sure if it is because he doesnt feel good or has an upset stomach. Just being on the safe side.

The tuna itself isn't harmful, so I suspect he vomited mostly because it was an unfamiliar food for him that may have been too rich or salty. Keep an eye on him for any signs of increasing illness, diarrhea, more vomiting, lethargy, refusal to eat his evening meal, anything like that means he needs to be seen by your vet right away.

It sounds like the tuna juice upset Dahlia's stomach. I wouldn't give it to her again. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Hello, and thanks for your question about Kitty. Tuna is generally a pretty safe thing for a dog to eat, and I think chances are Kitty will be fine. However, any time a dog gets into something they're not used to, or a fattier than usual meal, it's possible that it could trigger some GI upset. As long as Kitty remains bright and playful with a normal appetite, then she should do just fine and the minimal stool production doesn't worry me. However, if her appetite drops, she seems lethargic, or starts vomiting then I'd have her looked at by the vet in case she is developing pancreatitis. Hope this helps!

I would not be overly concerned if she vomited most of it up quickly, indeed the salt is more likely to be a concern than the fish. Ensure she has fresh water available but do not allow her to over drink. At worst, you may see some stomach upset (vomiting, diarrhea). If so, withhold food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount if there is no vomiting. Feed bland until symptoms resolve then transition slowly to the regular diet. Symptoms that should be addressed by your vet include persistent vomiting or diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.
