My dog ate too many dental bones. What signs should I watch for?

Bones can cause dental problems like broken teeth, and GI problems like obstruction and perforation. I would watch Babu for now. If you see a loss of appetite, him chewing on only one side of mouth or refusing to eat hard food, vomiting, diarrhea, blood in his poop, or lethargy, have him seen by a vet immediately. It can take a couple of days to see signs, or you may see signs within 24 hours. I hope this helps.

You can monitor her closely for signs consistent with a gastrointestinal obstruction such as vomiting, nausea, inappetence and abdominal pain. If any of these signs are observed, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as those may be indications of an obstruction. Honestly I don't think they he is going to have any serious problems from this. I would be careful about how much water he consumes tonight. He can have a few sips but don't let him gulp down a whole bowl of water after eating all of those bones. As long as he seems comfortable, can lay down, is not dry heaving, does not have a distended abdomen that is rigid, isn't crying/moaning in pain, I think you are ok tonight. I would get up every few hours and check on him if you can. If any of the signs above develop, I would get him evaluated ASAP by a vet. Bloat is possible especially if he drank a really large quantity of water following his gorging out on the bones. Good luck with Percy. If he develops diarrhea and/or vomiting he would have to be evaluated and treated accordingly also.

Your dog still may vomit the bone or some of the bone fragments and she will probably have an upset stomach for a day or so. She will probably also develop diarrhea or soft stools because of ingesting the bones. Keep a close eye on her and if the vomiting lasts more than 24 hours or she starts having bloody stools, you will need to take her to the veterinarian. Poor Devious! Many dogs will have an upset stomach after eating something like this. The biggest concern is that the rib bones can have sharp edges and may cause an intestinal perforation, or they could become stuck and cause a blockage in her intestines. Signs of these problems would include repeated episodes of vomiting, acting lethargic, and not wanting to eat - if she develops any of these symptoms, she needs to see a vet immediately as she may need emergency surgery to remove the bones. If she is acting normal right now apart from some runny stool, you can try feeding her a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for the next 2-3 days to help settle her stomach and get things back to normal. If this doesn't help, or if she develops any other symptoms such as the ones I listed above, you will need to take her to the vet right away for an exam and treatment.

This should not be a problem, however I would reduce his evening meal by approximately the amount of the treats. The worst that might happen is that your dog gets diarrhea or a tummy upset. If that happens, feed boiled white rice and white chicken for a day and then transition back to his normal food. Hide the treats on top of the kitchen cabinets!

She is a larger dog, so she will likely be OK. I would monitor her closely for any gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting or diarrhea. Acute intake of fatty foods can cause acute pancreatitis in dogs, which can range from an easy fix to a multi-day hospitalization with potential for life-threatening complications. If Xena becomes inappetant, has episodes of vomiting or diarrhea, or simply isn't acting herself, I recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian. It is unlikely that the high-calcium buffalo treats will cause any issues. I hope this is helpful!
