My dog ate rib meat and had diarrhea. When will he poop again?

I wouldn't be too worried about it as he's otherwise normal. I would take him for a couple of walks a day, as this can stimulate pooping, and make sure he drinks plenty of water. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cody! The poop will come as long as he is eating. It may take 2-3 days. You are correct he is cleaned out from the diarrhea and fasting (if he was), plus the medications and the chicken and rice bind dogs up. As long as he is eating, not vomiting and not straining the poop will come! Good luck!

You can change his food to boiled chicken and rice as this is very bland. You can also get probiotics from any pet store to start. If he starts vomiting or has a decrease in appetite, or starts with bloody diarrhea, then he needs to be seen by your vet. If it continues past 48 hours with no improvement, then I would get him checked also

Sometimes a dog will not "go" for 24 - 48 hours after anti-diarrheal medications have been started. Think of it like this: the system was essentially empty due to the [diarrhea](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/diarrhea-1/), and if the medication is effective, it will slow down the transit time of food through the GI tract and it will take a couple of days for him to actually need to poop again. As long as he is eating and drinking and feeling good, I would not immediately panic. I do often see dogs recovering from diarrhea go as much as 48 - 72 hours before having a bowel movement. If it's longer than this, or if he's not feeling well, get him rechecked immediately.

Constipation is pretty uncommon in dogs, so the bigger concern would be an obstruction, or a GI upset from raw meat (such as diarrhea or pancreatitis). Fortunately, raw bones are quite digestible in the stomach and often pass without incident. Monitor Bayliss closely for a decreased appetite, vomiting, or lethargy. As long as he is eating normally without vomiting, I am not worried about obstruction. However, if he shows any symptoms of lethargy, inappetance, or vomiting then a vet visit is appropriate. Hello! This is normal. You can see a period of no pooping after having diarrhea, and I would not worry that he hasn't had any poop for 12 hours. Just be careful giving him Imodium, it's not safe if given more than two days and it's really safe for smaller dogs. I would keep feeding him the chicken and rice in small portions for the next 3 days, then slowly start adding back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea starts again or he has other symptoms such as vomiting, refusing to eat, blood in his poop, or lethargy, he will have to see a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Oftentimes when a dog is recovering from having diarrhea, they stop defecating for a a day or two. That is not a big concern. I am so glad to hear that Leo is getting better! Keep up the good work!
