My chihuahua ate raisins, no symptoms after 24 hours. Is she okay?

Hello. This is always a bit of a quandary because there are no hard rules for raisin & grape consumption in small amounts. A few raisins in a 60-pound dog is probably or no consequence, but some dogs can react to just one. Personally, I would just watch Buddy. Most problems will develop in 6-24 hours, & consist of vomiting &/or diarrhea. If any of these should develop, get to your vet immediately. No vomiting or diarrhea by 48 hours, then he will be fine. Unfortunately, it's hard to say how raisins or grapes will affect a dog as tolerance can be different. I would continue to monitor Sasha just in case, and if you notice any issues such as vomiting, diarrhea, changes in appetite, lethargy, excessive (or no) urination, abdominal pain, confusion, etc, take her in for care ASAP.

Symptoms of grape toxicity usually begin within 24-48 hours of ingestion, so Arlee is likely to be ok if she's had no other symptoms 5 days after eating them. The exact dose of grapes to cause toxicity is unknown, so it is very important that you don't allow Arlee to eat anymore grapes (or raisins). If she's got a rash, then I would take her into your regular vet to be evaluated for that, as there are a few different things that can cause a rash, and she may need medication to help clear it up.

Some dogs can eat grapes without getting ill or having kidney failure, others cannot. Next time you visit a veterinarian with Riker have some blood work done to make sure he has healthy kidneys. Should Riker get lethargic, start drinking a lot of water or has diarrhea or vomits. All these could be signs of kidney disease.

There are no home remedies to prevent any adverse effects from rapes, but poisoning events and kidney failure are quite rare. Not all grapes/raisins appear to be toxic so I recommend monitoring for any change in thirst and urination

Hello. Raisins can be toxic, but your pet would not have had an opportunity to ingest enough to cause any issues. Just licking the residue from the dish or eating a tiny piece would not be a problem.

The milk may cause some GI upset, but the raisins are a problem. There is no known safe amount of raisins for dogs to eat. There is always a possibility of kidney failure. The (major) problem with treating these guys is that you don't know if it's going to cause kidney failure until it's too late. They don't act different or ill until they are life threateningly ill. The only way to treat them is to go to the clinic, make Sora vomit if it was within an hour or maybe 2, then keep her on IV fluids for a day or two. And some dogs can eat raisins without any problems. We just don't know how each individual will react. So I know that's not the most helpful answer, but that's the more accurate one we have. You can chance it and do nothing and there is a good chance everything will be fine, or you can take her to the clinic immediately for hospitalization. Good luck!
