My dog ate raisins 12 hours ago, no symptoms. What should I do?

Hello. This is always a bit of a quandary because there are no hard rules for raisin & grape consumption in small amounts. A few raisins in a 60-pound dog is probably or no consequence, but some dogs can react to just one. Personally, I would just watch Buddy. Most problems will develop in 6-24 hours, & consist of vomiting &/or diarrhea. If any of these should develop, get to your vet immediately. No vomiting or diarrhea by 48 hours, then he will be fine. Symptoms of grape toxicity usually begin within 24-48 hours of ingestion, so Arlee is likely to be ok if she's had no other symptoms 5 days after eating them. The exact dose of grapes to cause toxicity is unknown, so it is very important that you don't allow Arlee to eat anymore grapes (or raisins). If she's got a rash, then I would take her into your regular vet to be evaluated for that, as there are a few different things that can cause a rash, and she may need medication to help clear it up.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unfortunately, the answer is “there is no way to know”. Not all dogs will develope any type of kidney injury. The dogs that do get kidney damage sometimes do not show signs on bloodwork for up to 72 hours. To be safe I’d say do a kidney blood panel and urinalysis on Monday. Realistically though, if there is no increased drinking or urinating or any other changes by tomorrow, she is likely to be just fine. Best of luck to you and Luna!

There are no home remedies to prevent any adverse effects from rapes, but poisoning events and kidney failure are quite rare. Not all grapes/raisins appear to be toxic so I recommend monitoring for any change in thirst and urination

Grape toxicity can cause kidney disease and failure. An increase in drinking and urination along with anorexia and vomiting are common side effects of that. These generally stay within 24 hours with the most severe starting 24-48 hours. So 2 days is the time to monitor for any toxicity

Some dogs can eat grapes without getting ill or having kidney failure, others cannot. Next time you visit a veterinarian with Riker have some blood work done to make sure he has healthy kidneys. Should Riker get lethargic, start drinking a lot of water or has diarrhea or vomits. All these could be signs of kidney disease.

I think this may be a repetition of a previous question. If she is behaving normally there is nothing specific you can give back home as the grape is already digested by now. As said before monitoring possible signs of intoxication is the best course of action at this stage.
