My dog ate a whole pumpkin pie. Is nutmeg toxic? What should I do?

It's not likely that Oliver got a big enough dose to cause any signs of toxicity. Nutmeg toxicity is quite rare and is actually a rather mild toxicant. It has been reported to cause drooling, vomiting and behavior change (causes hallucinations in people) in dogs receiving two tablespoons or more. If Oliver has excessive vomiting and/or a drastic change in behavior, then it would be best to take him to the vet for treatment and monitoring. Otherwise, he should be fine to observe at home for the next 24 hours. If he is fine after 24 hours, then you'll know that he did not receive a toxic dose and should not have any problems related to the nutmeg. I hope that helps and all is well with Oliver.

I am sorry that Shelby has eaten your slice of pie, but I would not be overly concerned. I have looked up the ingredients in Costco’s pumpkin pie recipe and there does not seem to be any toxic ingredients. Nutmeg can be toxic for dogs, but it does not appear to be in their recipe. Because it is only one small slice Shelby should be fine, however, pie has a large amount of sugar and fat in it and this may cause some gastrointestinal upset. to help prevent this I would advise the following; Rest her stomach for 6 hours by withholding a meal Then provide a bland diet of boiled chicken breast skinless and steamed white rice. If you notice and vomiting, diarrhoea or discomfort she may have developed pancreatitis which is a common condition when dogs ingest a large amount of fatty food. This is unlikely however, if you suspect it please post a further question here on the forum or take her to see her veterinarian. I would not be overly worried about this. The small amount of nutmeg used in recipes is very unlikely to cause serious toxicity, though mild stomach upset could occur if a small amount is ingested. Hi, you can expect him to be sick or to have tremors and shakes if the pumpkin had any mould on it. If he is not himself, I would recommend to have him checked over. On his next meal I would offer him something bland like chicken and rice.Hope this helps !

None of those nuts are specifically toxic, though the high fat content could cause some vomiting, diarrhea, or pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas that can cause a lot of pain and vomiting). If she starts vomiting and vomits more than twice in a 12 hour period, if she starts acting painful or lethargic, or she’s having watery diarrhea, take her in to your vet. Oh boy, Jessie! Well, there is nothing toxic in pie as long as you didn't add any artificial sweeteners. That said, that amount of sugar, fat, etc. may cause stomach upset.. vomiting or diarrhea. I would feed only a small meal for the next meal, and let the stomach rest. Watch for problems and see your vet if you notice any issues.

Cats can get their tails into anything, can't they?! If you wiped her down and removed all the whipped cream and pieces of pumpkin, she won't get sick at all. There would be nothing on her tail for her to ingest causing her to get sick. It would also take a sufficient quantity of nutmeg to make her sick, and there wouldn't be enough of it in a few pieces of pumpkin to cause that to happen. She should be fine :-)
