My chihuahua ate French toast with nutmeg. Is a small amount safe?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 4 years and 4 months old | 10 lbs

My 9lb chihuahua caught a bite of French toast that I cooked but it had about a teaspoon of nutmeg in the batter. She only caught a small piece of a slice, but I’m still worried.

I would not be overly worried about this. The small amount of nutmeg used in recipes is very unlikely to cause serious toxicity, though mild stomach upset could occur if a small amount is ingested. Just keep an eye on her but really, she should be just fine.
