My dog ate a pig ear and won't eat, but is playful. Vet needed?

Poor Buster. I can give you home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. If Anfinneg has never had a pig ear before, it could be making him nauseous leading to the drooling. I'd keep an eye on him for now and if he's still drooling a lot in the morning, have him seen by a vet.

Do not give him any more olive oil, it will not help and because it's an oil and so fatty, it can cause him to have pancreatitis. It's good that he's acting normally, and he is a bigger dog, so this may pass without issue. Monitor him for vomiting, diarrhea, blood in the stool, lethargy, and a loss of appetite. natural pig ears are usually a good option also on a point of view of potential allergies, i do not see any cons unless you discover after giving it that your dog is allergic or doesn't react well to it. do start slowly and give him 2 a week to start with.

Pig's ears can be OK in small quantities and with strict monitoring, however large pieces can cause a young dog (and even older dogs) to choke, so removing any pieces that become too soft or pose a choking hazard is best. Other toys such as a Kong filled with treats or peanut butter, or a Nylabone that is more digestible and chewable are great safer alternatives to give and still stimulate chewing needs.
