My dog ate a small piece of rug. Should I be worried about her?

Hi and thanks for posting! Any type of foreign object or material ingested has the potential to cause a problem. However, from the picture, it doesn't looks like very much was torn off from the rug placer. These small pieces Loki ate may very well pass on their own without causing an issue, however, I would be on the look out for signs of a possible problem brewing such as frequent vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite and lethargy. You will have to monitor her in the next few days, it could pass without causing problems but it could also get stuck in the small intestines or stay in the stomach, in that case at some point you should see some acute changes such as lethargy, vomiting and lack of appetite. if that happens you will need to take her urgently to the vet to get it treated.

Well that was naughty of Teddy to eat the rug. If he has since eaten well with no vomiting and continues to not vomit, have a normal appetite and use the bathroom fine, he should be ok. Signs of an obstruction are continuous vomiting (even water), lack of appetite, scant (small) feces and lethargy (decreased energy level). I hope that Teddy is able to pass the rug pieces well. If he chewed it well then chances of him passing it are really good. He may have an upset stomach though, at which time you can try a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to see if it settles things down. So sorry for your shoes! It really depends how large the pieces were when they went down. If he tore it into pieces, which I would expect, then it may cause a GI upset but unlikely to cause an obstruction. The best thing to do is monitor him for any vomiting or diarrhea as this can be signs if a problem. There is no need to take him anywhere right now

Oh no, that's not good! More than likely, this one thread will pass without problem especially if it isn't very long. The worst case scenario would be it could cause a linear foreign body, signs of which include a decreased appetite, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. Keep an eye on her to be safe, and if you do see any of those signs, take her into a vet right away. Hopefully, however, she will be just fine. Best of luck!

A tiny piece of plastic like this is unlikely to cause any problems with Ella. You can monitor her for signs of GI obstruction which would include vomiting, decreased appetite, abdominal pain, and lethargy. If these occur, then she should see her vet right away, but I don't expect that to occur with the small amounts she may have ingested, they will likely just pass through her GI tract. You can feed her something high in fiber to help the passing, such as a piece of whole wheat bread or a teaspoon or two of canned pumpkin.

If you notice Jax having vomiting, diarrhea, or a decrease in appetite or energy, that could indicate the fur chunk is stuck and he needs veterinary care. If you don't notice that in the next few days, I wouldn't be too concerned, as hopefully it will have passed.
