My small dog ate Oreos and a donut. Is he okay? What should I do?

My dog is 7 pounds he ate 3 Oreos & a whole donut. What should I do?

Oh my, that was naughty of him to eat all that! Luckily the Oreos won't contain a lot of chocolate, and if the donut wasn't chocolate either, there wouldn't be a concern about chocolate toxicity. The concern is the sugar content, which can and does cause GI upset. I can give you a home remedy to try if you see any GI upset in the form of vomiting. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Oh that was naughty of Picasso to eat those Oreos! Luckily, Oreos do not have a lot of chocolate, and at his weight of 80 pounds, he will likely not experience a reaction from it. More concern is the sugar in them, and that could cause him stomach upset in the form of vomiting and diarrhea. If you do see any vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, has diarrhea on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Hopefully, however, Picasso will be just fine. I hope this helps :-)

You can try to calculate the exact amount of chocolate in the donut and call your local emergency clinic and they can tell you over the phone if the amount is toxic or not, but it is unlikely to be. Otherwise watch for vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, hyperactivity. If these occur get her to a vet right away. These are unlikely to occur however. Best of luck with Pixie!

My dog ate a chocolate donut. Is cocoa toxic? Should I make him vomit?

Oh no, that was naughty of Junior! Cocoa is toxic to dogs, but it depends on how much was in the donut as to whether or not it leads to toxic symptoms. In looking up the ingredients, I see that it contains less than 2% of cocoa, so the amount in this little donut is not likely to cause toxic symptoms. Junior should be ok, but keep an eye on him for now. To be safe, you can take him into a vet to safely induce vomiting. I don't recommend inducing vomiting at home. That's because hydrogen peroxide (which is used at home to induce vomiting) can and does cause severe esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem, so it's always preferred to advise emergency care. Take him into a vet now to induce vomiting.

A single chocolate-covered donut should not contain enough chocolate to cause any problems for a dog this size, so I wouldn't worry - she should be just fine :) She may have some mild stomach upset for the next 24 hours or so if she isn't used to eating human food like this, but she should not have any toxicity problems related to the chocolate.

The good news is that tootsie rolls do not contain much chocolate, and depending on the type of sandwich cookies Molly ate, she may not have eaten enough chocolate to cause a problem with toxicity. My dog ate donuts and is vomiting. Should I take him to the vet?

I hate to hear that Blu Bear is sick. Eating 8 doughnuts will do that to him. If he seems to be really miserable or if his gums are dry to the touch, I would advise to take him into the veterinarian tonight. The doctor can give him an injection to stop vomiting and some subcutaneous fluids to dehydrate him. If he seems relatively happy and his gums are nice and moist, offer him only very small amount of water and no food until morning. Feed him boiled chicken and white rice for the next 3 days. If he is still sick tomorrow morning, take him into the vet for treatment. I hope this helps!
