My dog ate a chocolate donut. Is she okay after I made her vomit?

Oh no, that was naughty of Junior! Cocoa is toxic to dogs, but it depends on how much was in the donut as to whether or not it leads to toxic symptoms. In looking up the ingredients, I see that it contains less than 2% of cocoa, so the amount in this little donut is not likely to cause toxic symptoms. Junior should be ok, but keep an eye on him for now. To be safe, you can take him into a vet to safely induce vomiting. I don't recommend inducing vomiting at home. That's because hydrogen peroxide (which is used at home to induce vomiting) can and does cause severe esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem, so it's always preferred to advise emergency care. Take him into a vet now to induce vomiting.

A single chocolate-covered donut should not contain enough chocolate to cause any problems for a dog this size, so I wouldn't worry - she should be just fine :) She may have some mild stomach upset for the next 24 hours or so if she isn't used to eating human food like this, but she should not have any toxicity problems related to the chocolate.

Oh my, that was naughty of him to eat all that! Luckily the Oreos won't contain a lot of chocolate, and if the donut wasn't chocolate either, there wouldn't be a concern about chocolate toxicity. The concern is the sugar content, which can and does cause GI upset. I can give you a home remedy to try if you see any GI upset in the form of vomiting. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Depending on when Gigi ate the chocolate and how many ounces of chocolate she ate relative to her weight can determine the likelihood of developing any toxicity. The first signs of toxicity include vomiting/diarrhea, if a large amount was ingested symptoms can progressive to anxiety, tremoring, or seizures. For a small dog like Gigi, even a small amount like 4-5 chunks, could lead to severe side effects. I contacting ASPCA Poison Control who can provide more guided information regarding the dose that Gigi ingested and make recommendations for treatment/veterinary care. There is a fee for their service. Alternatively, you could have Gigi seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine her and determine the need for additional treatments. It sounds like there was not enough chocolate in the two cookies that Winnie ate to cause a problem. Keep an eye on her for the rest of the night. Signs of chocolate toxicity include hyperactivity, excessive vomiting, tremors, and seizures. If you notice any of the symptoms I would take her into the vet right away. But based on how much you described that she had I think she should be fine.

She could have tummy upset from the other parts of the biscuit so feeding her a bland diet for a few days isn't wrong. I wish you and Trixie the best!

If you can determine the type of chocolate (white, milk, dark, etc.) and the exact amount (number of ounces or grams), then you can call your local 24 hour clinic and ask if that amount is toxic or not. If it is, then you will need to get Vito to throw up, and then depending on what is thrown up and how much chocolate was ingested, IV fluids, and medications, might be required. Chocolate toxicity causes vomiting, diarrhea, tachycardia (high heart rate), arrythmias (Abnormal heart beat rhythm), tremors, seizures and death, often in that order, depending on how much was eaten.
