My dog ate sugary pastries. What should I do if they're not chocolate?

Oh my, that was naughty of him to eat all that! Luckily the Oreos won't contain a lot of chocolate, and if the donut wasn't chocolate either, there wouldn't be a concern about chocolate toxicity. The concern is the sugar content, which can and does cause GI upset. I can give you a home remedy to try if you see any GI upset in the form of vomiting. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. There's not much to be done but treat the symptoms after more than 12 hours. A visit to your vet would be prudent if your dog ate a large quantity and is having tremors/twitches or an irregular/fast heartbeat. If he is acting normally otherwise, withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (boiled boneless, skinless chicken breasts and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts. Feed until the stool is normal, then transition slowly to the regular diet. If the diarrhea doesn't resolve, see your veterinarian.

Rigs should be ok, there isn't a ton of chocolate in a chocolate croissant. At most, you may see some GI upset. The biggest concern I'd have is pancreatitis from the fat in the croissant. If you see abdominal pain, vomiting, lethargy, or anorexia, have her see a vet immediately.

I’m so sorry to hear about Zeke! I worry less about the chocolate content and more about the butter content triggering some pancreatitis. I expect Zeke will have some vomiting and diarrhea. The diarrhea may last for 1-3 days but if it’s profuse or lasts more than 3 days (or worsens with time instead of improving), it’s also time to see the vet.
