My dog ate a chocolate donut. Will they be okay from the chocolate?

Hi there. There should not be enough actual cocoa in half of a chocolate muffin to cause any significant toxicity issues in a dog this size, so it's unlikely that you'll see any problems. Zion may have some minor stomach upset if he isn't used to eating human food like this, but otherwise should be just fine.

You can try to calculate the exact amount of chocolate in the donut and call your local emergency clinic and they can tell you over the phone if the amount is toxic or not, but it is unlikely to be. Otherwise watch for vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, hyperactivity. If these occur get her to a vet right away. These are unlikely to occur however. Best of luck with Pixie!

Oh my, that was naughty of him to eat all that! Luckily the Oreos won't contain a lot of chocolate, and if the donut wasn't chocolate either, there wouldn't be a concern about chocolate toxicity. The concern is the sugar content, which can and does cause GI upset. I can give you a home remedy to try if you see any GI upset in the form of vomiting. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Considering her weight few laps of it (especially if not dark chocolate) should not provoke any toxicity. I would monitor her for the next hours and if showing any signs (restless/generally unsettled, breathing abnormally, vomiting, diarrhoea) a check up would be needed.

Such a small amount of chocolate (especially milk chocolate, which doesn't contain much cocoa) should not be enough to cause any significant issues - so no need to worry :) It's possible that Cupcake might have a mild upset stomach if she isn't used to eating "people food" like this, but otherwise she should be just fine.

Bubba will probably be fine as that is not a toxic dose of chocolate. He may have mild stomach upset from the sugar/fat in the food so watch for vomiting and diarrhea. If that occurs sometimes a bland diet for a few days is helpful but rarely a veterinarian visit is needed if it doesn't resolve on its own within a day or two.
