My dog ate metal wrapper, stuck in stomach. Is waiting too long?

Yes, if he is otherwise normal then he can likely wait until tomorrow to see the vet but really, that is your call. I cannot make that call for you. You know your dog best. If you think he needs to see a vet sooner there is no harm in taking him now. I suggest fasting him until he sees the vet so don't feed him anything else but water is OK.

Yes if it was chewed well then hopefully it will pass out. I recommend feeding more food to help it pass quickly with the food. If he stops eating, becomes painful or is straining to poop without anything being passed then you should take him in for treatment, I expect he will recover without treatment. At his size, he should be able to pass it in the next 24-48 hours. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or straining to defecate. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Hello, thank you for the question. Based on the symptoms that you have described as well as the passage of foreign material in his stool I would recommend having your dog seen by a veterinarian. It is possible that there is more foreign material in his GI tract or he may have residual inflammation from passing something abnormal. It sounds like he seems stable overall, so I think it would be ok to wait to see your regular veterinarian tomorrow. He's not showing any signs of a problem, and since he's otherwise acting normally, there's no need to rush him into a vet. Now if he does start showing signs of a problem, then I would take him into a vet right away. It may be this has already passed without problem. If there was internal damage, you would see signs of a problem such as a loss of appetite, lethargy, and blood in his poop. If it would make you feel better to have him checked out, that's certainly ok, but it's also fine to keep an eye on him for now. I hope this helps!

If Kai is throwing up and not eating or drinking, then she needs to be seen as soon as possible. Because she got into the garbage, she could have an intestinal blockage from the wrapper, or have pancreatitis. Both of these are serious conditions that can be life threatening. If she is still eating and drinking and otherwise acting normally, then you can wait until your normal clinic is open. I would recommend to wait as this episodes may be incidental or related to a mild inflammation caused by the squeaker, from what you are describing I do not think there any risk of complete obstruction at this stage. As a first approach I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
