My dog swallowed a squeaker and threw up. When should I see a vet?

If Piper swallowed the entire squeaky part of a toy, then it may not be able to pass through her GI tract because of its size. You have a couple of options. You can immediately go to your vet to have them induce vomiting if she ingested it within the last 30 minutes. This is sometimes successful for objects that are too large to pass out of the stomach. If you do not decide to do that, you need to monitor her closely for any abnormalities. If she does not feel well, does not want to eat, or starts vomiting, she needs to see a veterinarian immediately. If the squeaker gets stuck in her intestines it can be an emergency. Good luck! If the needle was the only foreign body ingested and it was brought back up without any noticeable additional sign (further vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy and inappetence or abdominal pain/discomfort) I would suggest just to monitor him at this stage. Vomiting and inappetence can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Good luck and have a good night!

More than likely it is in the process of moving through the gut, or it has already passed unnoticed in the stool. If Marsha is still eating, & there is no vomiting or diarrhea, then I would continue to watch for any difficulties. Feeding her a bland diet of 25% boiled chicken or beef and 75% plain, cooked white rice should help to move the material through. If all is well after 3 days of the diet, then I would be surprised if any further issues develop. But any concerns, please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thank you.
