Dog ate macadamia nuts and granola bars. Should I be concerned?

If it is just the typical granola bar that only contains a few chips then she is likely going to be ok but again would depend on the amount. If this happened recently within the last 2 hours, there is still time to induce vomiting. You can always contact ASPCS animal poison center to let them know exactly how much chocolate there is which will depend on the type of bars (let them know the kind). Toxicity is based on type of chocolate and the weight of the amount eaten. Watch fro tummy upset: vomit, diarrhea, lethargy, not want to eat. I wish you and Moose the best!

Hello. The amount of chocolate in those granola bars is not enough to be toxic. The most I would expect would possibly be loose stools and maybe some nausea from the peroxide. I think Bandits will be fine !!

Wow, that is a lot of macaroons! More than likely, Amber will experience some GI upset from eating all that sugar. You may see some vomiting and diarrhea from it. If you do see any GI upset, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. She should be ok :-)

I don't think you need to be too concerned. Nuts are not recommended to feed dogs, because they are high in fat and can therefore lead to some vomiting and diarrhea from gastroenteritis, and potentially some pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas--causes pain and vomiting ). The only exception to the guideline regarding nuts is macadamia nuts, which are specifically toxic to dogs. As far as mold goes, average refrigerator-household-food mold could cause some gastroenteritis but is unlikely to be a major issue. Compost piles and truly rotting food, however, are dangerous if ingested as they contain mycotoxins. (again, not the case with "refrigerator" mold). You can feed him a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice) for a few days to help minimize gastroenteritis. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I’m not terribly concerned about this. There is not enough chocolate to really affect a dog this size. Possible concerns would be an obstruction from the wrappers if he ate those too OR pancreatitis flare up if there is alot of fat in those cakes. Otherwise, I’d monitor for vomiting and diarrhea. As long as he is eating and acting normally, there is little cause for concern. Best wishes to you and Manson.

As long as the granola didn't contain chocolate, macadamia nuts or raisins I wouldn't be concerned about toxicity. This could cause some upset stomach however, and since granola can be high in fat you could see pancreatitis develop. I would guess that cardboard would be digested, but if there was any plastic then there could be concern for an obstruction as well. I would recommend monitoring Bear for any vomiting, decreased appetite or diarrhea and contacting your vet right away if you see any of these signs.
