My dog ate granola and paper. Is it toxic or will it cause issues?

Almonds are not toxic to dogs and I wouldn’t think there is anything in this granola that would be dangerous. It could cause stomach upset but seeing an emergency vet now probably wouldn’t change much - I’d just monitor her for any vomiting or diarrhea and take her to a vet for symptomatic treatment if it occurs. I don’t think there is anything preventative to do.

If this happened recently, ie within the past 2 hours or so, you should take him to a vet for inducing vomiting. If this has been longer then you need to watch your dog for a tummy ache, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, as he could get pancreatitis from the food he is not used to. Also the wrappers could cause trouble. Watch his feces, wrappers should show up as they pass through the intestinal canal. If he shows any signs of discomfort, please take him to a veterinarian or Pet ER.

Hi and thanks for your question. If the earth bars had a lot of fat and/or chocolate in them, then that may be a concern. Chocolate can be quite toxic to dogs and a high amount of fat can cause stomach upset and pancreatitis. If the bars had raisins in them, that would also be a red flag. Raisins can cause renal failure in dogs. Macadamia nuts are also another toxic food found in health bars. If these contained anything mentioned above, you may want to see you veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helped.

It could be this granola has upset her stomach causing the bloating, and it can take up to 24 hours for signs of chocolate toxicity to show. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear that. How affected Nova will be depends on how much chocolate there is in those granola bars. If it is just the typical granola bar that only contains a few chips then she is likely going to be ok but again would depend on the amount. If this happened recently within the last 2 hours, there is still time to induce vomiting. You can always contact ASPCS animal poison center to let them know exactly how much chocolate there is which will depend on the type of bars (let them know the kind). Hi there. The graham crackers themselves should not cause any serious problems, although she may have some minor stomach upset if she isn't used to eating human food like this. The plastic is potentially more concerning - it may pass through just fine on its own, especially if she chewed it into pieces, but it's possible that it could become stuck in her intestinal tract and cause an obstruction. I would recommend monitoring her closely for the next 2-3 days for any signs of a problem. Symptoms of an intestinal obstruction would include repeated episodes of vomiting, not eating, acting lethargic, and not having regular bowel movements. If you see any of these symptoms, then I would definitely take her to the vet for an exam and x-rays. But as long as she is acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry :)

I would not give any more hydrogen peroxide either. I recommend feeding him a normal meal and ensuring he has plenty of access to water. I hope this is helpful!
