My 13lb dog ate a chocolate granola bar. Is this an emergency?

  The amount of chocolate chips is not likely a toxic amount for a 37lb dog. At worst, you may see some vomiting and/or diarrhea. As long as Pearl is behaving normally otherwise, you may be able to manage symptoms at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to her regular diet afterwards.
  Monitor for persistent vomiting/diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, tremors, seizures, hyperactivity or fast/irregular heart rate. These symptoms should be addressed by your veterinarian.

  I think Nita will be ok, given there typically isn't a lot of chocolate in granola bars. Given that almonds are not easily digested by dogs, you may see some GI upset. If you do see GI upset, I recommend a home remedy. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet.
