My dog ate 0.5mg Lonazep. Is it dangerous and what is it used for?

Clonazepam can be used to treat seizures in dogs. If ingested, sedation, depression, and stumbling can occur. Without knowing the milligram of the medication, I don't know it he will have any signs. It will not cause seizures though. I would just be careful he doesn't ingest them. Keep them out of reach, in a cabinet. Kisses to Bruno!

Hi, Lyrica (pregabalin) is also used in dogs as a new promising anti epileptic drug for dogs that have intolerance or no benefits to the most common used drugs. It is normally prescribed at 2-3 mg/kg. I would therefore not worry about Howie having ingested a single 50 mg tablet, it woud not put him in any danger apart from drowsiness and lethargy. Hello. We do use Keppra in dogs, & this would have been a bit on the lower dosing side, so I would not be concerned. A potential dangerous dose would need to be at least 10 times this much. Oh no, that was naughty of Heaven Lee to eat the Klonopin! Klonopin is used in dogs as a short term treatment for epilepsy. As long as she is at least 1kg (2.2 pounds), she will have ingested at most the highest recommended dose of the medication according to Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook. There are also no interactions between Xanax or Klonopin. She should be fine from this ingestion, but you may see some side effects of the drug such as sedation or ataxia. If you see any significant effects, such as GI effects (vomiting, constipation, diarrhea), or increased salivation, I would have Heaven Lee seen by a vet.

A 1mg pill should not be dangerous if either dog got ahold of it. Dogs can safely take xanax, and 1mg is within the dose range for both dogs. It's on the higher end for your smaller dog, but it's still ok. I hope this helps!

I am not sure what your pets weight is, but this medication is given at a dosage of 1-2 mg/kg and as high as 3mg/kg daily dosage can be given to pets. I also don’t know what mg dosage your pets Lovan is, since this medication comes in about 3 different dosages. 1 lb=2.2 kg’s. So a 20 lb dog can take around 30 mg of medication daily. As far as toxicity is concerned, around 15.9mg/kg daily dosage can lead to toxicity in dogs. I hope this helps.
