My dog ate Clonazepam (Lonazep). Will he have seizures or be sick?

It is really hard to tell exactly what you are asking. Did Bruno swallow one pill of 0.5mg Lonazep (lorazepam)? If so, one tablet will not harm him. This is a benzodiazepine drug and dogs often take medications in this class of drug for anxiety and sedative effects. It can also be given for seizure activity. Dogs however, take a much higher dose than a person so that low dose will not harm him. The only thing you may notice is a bit of sleepiness but I doubt it. Oh no, that was naughty of Heaven Lee to eat the Klonopin! Klonopin is used in dogs as a short term treatment for epilepsy. As long as she is at least 1kg (2.2 pounds), she will have ingested at most the highest recommended dose of the medication according to Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook. There are also no interactions between Xanax or Klonopin. She should be fine from this ingestion, but you may see some side effects of the drug such as sedation or ataxia. If you see any significant effects, such as GI effects (vomiting, constipation, diarrhea), or increased salivation, I would have Heaven Lee seen by a vet.

It is not often used in pets but does have a wide dose thankfully. That is actually the middle dose for her weight, so you are unlikely to notice any affects at all. In extreme cases it can be anything from lethargy and sedation to hyperactivity. As long as she is responsive and walking, you can monitor her at home for the next 12-24 hours.

I'm very sorry that Gus is having this issue. It really would be best if you could find an emergency vet to take him to especially if the Clonazepam does not help. We don't want him to suffer. The dose range for clonazepam is 0.1 to 0.5 mg/kg orally every 8 hours. So, if he is 35 pounds, the high end of the dose would be 0.25mg (1/4 of the 1mg tablet). You can give him that up to every 8 hours.

Clonidine is a medication that we do use in dogs for anxiety disorders. The dose of this medication in dogs is about 0.1 mg for dogs that are less then 20 pounds. The dosage that Daisy may have ingested is more than tolerated one and I would strongly suggest to have her checked immediately by your local veterinarian.

Anti-anxiety medication, depending on which one, can be hard on the liver, depending on the medication, dose and frequency it is being used. Most anti-anxiety medications will depress the brain so tend to not cause seizures, but they do affect the brain so some animals can respond with seizures, but this is unlikely. Most of these medications will cause sedation, and the equivalent to 'drowsiness' that a human might feel. If you are seeing seizures or lethargy/weakness with the medications I recommend having your dog seen by a vet and checking blood levels. Also, I notice you have your dog listed as unneutered. If your dog is having anxiety, getting him neutered can help reduce stress and anxiety and would be recommended as part of an anti-anxiety treatment plan. Discuss this with your vet. Even if she only ingested 6mg, that's double the highest recommended dose for a cat her weight. Too much clonazepam can lower the blood pressure, leading to weakness or collapse. In a senior cat, low blood pressure can be very serious. I'm not sure why you have no way of getting her to a vet, but she does need to see one immediately to make sure everything is ok. I would see if you could have a friend or family member take you into the vet, or call a cab or Uber to have her seen now. Best of luck.
