My 14lb puppy ate a Lindt milk chocolate truffle. Should I be worried?

The amount she ate will cause minimal to no reaction. At most you may see some GI upset, but other than that, she should be ok. I hope this helps!

Most dogs will not have any clinical signs with milk chocolate until it reaches about a little more than an oz per 10 pounds. So, even if the milk chocolate truffle was 4oz, she should still be OK. Of course, the darker the chocolate the less they can tolerate. I would not induce vomiting at this small amount of consumption. I hope this eases your mind. Toxicity is based on type of chocolate and the weight of the amount eaten. Watch fro tummy upset: vomit, diarrhea, lethargy, not want to eat. I wish you and Moose the best!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Border collie's are decent size dogs. One piece of chocolate if milk or dark should not cause a problem. Please repost if baker's or semi sweet chocolate, that is much more toxic. We would need Drib's weight and the amount, in ounces, that he could have eaten if it was Baker's or semi sweet chocolate. Such a small amount of chocolate (especially milk chocolate, which doesn't contain much cocoa) should not be enough to cause any significant issues - so no need to worry :) It's possible that Cupcake might have a mild upset stomach if she isn't used to eating "people food" like this, but otherwise she should be just fine.

You can expect mild gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite). The amount is not enough to cause serious toxicity in a 15lb dog, but you should still monitor for tremors, increased heart rate, hyperactivity or seizures. Minor GI upset can usually be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Ideally, Mojito should be examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Either can induce vomiting if the ingestion has happened in the last two hours, then administer activated charcoal to further inhibit absorption.

The severity of this depends on the type of chocolate. 60g of milk chocolate is not likely to cause any problems in a 50# dog. If this was Baker's chocolate this could be severe. So, please post again and let us know what type of chocolate it was. Then we can help you better.
