Chihuahua ate kitten food, now has belly ache & whining. What to do?

Cat food tends to be higher in fat and calories than dog food and could cause an upset stomach. If Oreo ate enough cat food he could also have 'food bloat' where the stomach becomes distended with food and causes discomfort. If he is not vomiting and does not seem painful he may not require any veterinary care. If you think his stomach is distended with food frequent short walks could help everything move through his gastrointestinal tract. If he does begin vomiting, if he misses more than one meal, or if he becomes painful you will probably need to see a veterinarian.

First off, I'm so sorry you had to put your cat to sleep tonight. I did this recently with both a cat and dog, and completely understand the pain you are in. Given that Daphne ate her dinner fine, she may just have stomach upset. Keep an eye on her tonight and if she has diarrhea in the morning and still appears bloated, have her seen by a vet. It sounds like something is causing her discomfort. She should really be examined by a vet, if it continues. She could have a problem with her back, neck, or abdomen causing her some pain. Your vet can do a thorough physical examination to localize the problem and then treat. She may need an anti-inflammatory or pain medications. Hope she feels better soon.

Poor Peanut. She could be having stomach cramps which are causing her to run around and yelp. You could try to feed her some plain boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to see if this settles her tummy. If she isn't improving or constantly yelping, I would have your vet take a look at her. Your vet will be able to figure out the main problem(s) and get her started on the proper meds!

I am very sorry to hear that Poppy is experiencing these problems, I am sure it is very unsettling for you both. There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison. I would believe the most likely cause based on your description is that Poppy has a mild gastrointestinal infection or she ate something she shouldn't have. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few days I would continue to monitor Poppy at home. Here is what you can do to help her; Rest Poppy's gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. I also find that boiled, mashed skinless sweet potato is helpful for diarrhoea if she develops any. If Poppy does not improve, has profuse vomiting or diarrhoea, you notice fresh blood, Poppy seems lethargic, in pain or depressed I would advise a trip to the veterinarian. Yes I suspect it's the kitten food causing Buddy to have an upset stomach and vomit. Sudden changes in diet can lead to these symptoms. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones or skin) in small amounts a couple times a day for a few days, the start slowly adding in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, vomits the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, continues to have diarrhea, has blood in his stool, and/or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet immediately. Jaylee looks like a sweetie! If her spay was over a month ago, I agree that what she's showing is probably not related to the surgery. The main concern I have is that Jaylee is showing signs of pancreatitis. When a dog stretches out with their hind end in the air this is often a sign of abdominal pain associated with pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can occur after eating a high fat meal but it also can occur randomly. Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas an results in vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Mild pancreatitis can be treated with medication and a special diet while more severe pancreatitis requires hospitalization. The other concern I have is that Jaylee could have eaten something she shouldn't have that is causing an obstruction. You can try offering Jaylee a small bland low fat diet of boiled chicken and rice for her next meal. However, if she continues to show signs of abdominal pain and vomiting I'd recommend she see a veterinarian. She may need blood work, X-rays or medication to get her back on the right track.
