Why is my dog hunched over with a tummy ache and vomiting foam?

A distended abdomen can be due to many things. Here is a list of some possibilites: 1. constipation 2. bloat - I agree that after 12 hours this is unlikely 3. abdominal mass/tumor 4. abdominal fluid (ascites) 5. pyometra - infected uterus; common since she is not spayed I would be worried about this even though she seems to be "normal". If it is an "open" pyometra she may not be feeling as ill as if it were "closed". 6. internal parasites (ie: roundworms, hookworms, etc) Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I suggest you get Nexa to your vet for an exam. Some simple blood testing and a couple x-rays could rule in/out most of the things I have listed above. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hi there. If she seems to be doing better now and the vomiting has resolved, it should be fine to continue with the current plan of giving her small amounts of i/d for the next 2-3 days before gradually switching back to her regular diet. If she's still vomiting despite the Pepcid and bland diet, then I would say she definitely needs a vet visit at this point to determine what is causing her symptoms. She may have an intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, or some type of systemic illness like liver or kidney disease. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get her started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.

Since Timberblynn is an older girl, I would be worried about the possibility of some type of cancer causing her clinical signs. She may have a mass causing enlargement of one or many of her abdominal organs, such as her liver, and leading to her feeling sick and vomiting. I recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have her seen. Your vet can perform an exam and see if he/she can palpate any masses or organ abnormalities. Your vet may also recommend bloodwork and/or imaging to see any changes in her abdomen. In the meantime, you can try offering her a bland diet suck as boiled chicken and rice, however I feel strongly that she should see your veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

Do not give her any more milk, it causes GI upset in dogs and wll make things worse. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese. Poor Lilly sounds like she isn't feeling well! The shaking can be due to pain and feeling unwell. There are a couple of things this could be including a GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or a pyometra. Dogs who aren't spayed are prone to developing these infections of the uterus which are fatal without treatment. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, her abdomen becomes enlarged, you notice a smelly discharge from her vulva, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. If she does have a pyometra, that is a medical emergency and spaying her is part of the recommended treatment. Leaving it untreated is fatal. If you do have concerns that she could have a pyometra, I'd recommend taking her into a vet to be safe. I hope this helps!

Since last night was Halloween, think about if there's anything she could have eaten that she shouldn't have and take her to the vet ASAP if you realize your chocolate stash or your entire pan of bacon wrapped something or anothers from the potluck is missing. If you can't think of anything she ate, it's generally ok to wait 24 hours to see if she get back on her food naturally. Sometimes something goes wrong in the gut and we don't know why but it resolves quickly. If she's not back to normal in 24 hours, or has any vomiting or diarrhea in the mean time, she needs to go to her vet for evaluation and supportive care.
