My dog ate human poop with drugs/alcohol. What should I do?

If Noelani had ingested either meth or coke this morning, I would certainly have expected signs to develop by now (8 hours later). If the bag was well sealed and ingested whole, it may pass in her GI tract without her absorbing anything, but it is always safest to have her examined. We commonly see significant excitation with these drugs which can progress to heart or nervous system problems including seizures. If Noelani starts developing any signs of hyperexcitability, I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian immediately. It is likely that most of the caffeine and theobromine will have been digested and absorbed prior to defecation. I would monitor for any symptoms in the other dog to be on the safe side. Signs could include vomiting, lethargy, and/or hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia can be an emergency, and may present as shakiness, lethargy, listlessness, lack of coordination, confusion , lack of consciousness, seizures, and can even be fatal. Dogs will eat the dumbest things sometimes! If he's eaten only little pieces of it, likely they will pass without problem. Little bits of things typically pass in the feces within a couple of days, and sometimes even big things will pass. Should you want to be 100% safe, yes you can take Charlie into the ER vet to have vomiting induced, which would guarantee no problems will occur. The problem is the alcohol. Signs of alcohol toxicity are drooling, retching, vomiting or attempting to vomit, weakness, elevated heart rate, a distended stomach, collapse, coma hypothermia and in severe intoxication cases, death. Alcohol enters the blood stream very quickly, and once it is in the blood stream the only thing you can do is wait it out, ie wait until it is out of his system. Keep Cooper confined and watch him closely. If he shows any of the signs above or if he gets white mucus membranes, he needs to be taken to a pet ER. If you live close to a pet ER, you can take him there and the vets can make him vomit and thus get rid of the rest of the vodka still in the stomach and they may give activated charcoal to neutralise the alcohol in the stomach.

I suspect Harold will be fine. He may get some diarrhea or softened stool. Sometimes these human stool softeners can work too well. If he gets severe diarrhea, decreases drinking or seems uncomfortable, take him to the veterinarian immediately.
