My dog ate a human pill. He's acting normal, what's the next step?

I'm not sure what pill it is, and if may be your pets didn't consume any of it, so I would just keep an eye on them for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, take them into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

The concern I would have about this is if Tucker did eat any of the pills. Buspirone is an anti-anxiety drug, and while it can be used in dogs, depending on how many he may have eaten, he could suffer an overdose of it. You may see vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, or disorientation. It would be best to have Tucker seen by a vet now who can decide an appropriate course of treatment for him to prevent any chance of overdose.

Hello. That should be ok for Archie. I would recommend monitoring closely for signs of vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, weakness, or inappetance. If these occur get Archie to the vet but if he is acting normally then just monitor. Good luck with him!

I'm sorry to hear that! We would love to help; however I cannot find any medication with the name Epalit. Is there a way you can verify the name of the medication that she got into? I'm not sure if there was a typo perhaps? Also, please let us know the milligrams of the mediation and about how many there were. We can better advise you then! The other option would be for you to call the ASPCA poison control center with that information. They will be able to give you a very clear, very definitive knowledge of whether or not this is problematic, what to expect, and whether or not to go to the vet. There is a $65 charge, but their information is extremely valuable and we, as veterinarians, use their toxicologists advice and knowledge on these cases all the time. Since its been 12 hours, there's really not going to be a benefit to inducing vomiting, as the pills would have already gone through her stomach. Most toxicities will lead to clinical signs in the first 24 hours, but some substances can take up to a few days to see signs. If she starts to have any vomiting, diarrhea, tremoring, seizures, changes in her breathing, lethargy, or won't eat take her in to your vet. I hope thats helpful for you! If it has been two days with no issues Casper will likely be ok. I recommend monitoring him for decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dark stools and/or pain/pale gums for one week to ten days past the possible ingestion time. If you see any of those signs he needs to be seen by his veterinarian.

Typically allergy pills will make your pet a little lethargic, that is a normal side effect. And if he just got 1 pill there shouldn’t be any toxicity concerns. It really depends on the the type of medication and dosage whether this is a concern or not. I reccomend reposting with the name of the drug and the dosage if you can find it. A picture of the medication label would also be helpful. We will be able to better assist you when we have this info.
