My dog ate a grape and vomited it. Is he okay or does he need a vet?

Hi, I dont’ think the vomiting and diarrhoea is related to the grape ingestion. It could be that she has also eaten something else ! I would recommend to have her checked over 48 hours post ingestion to check her blood, to make sure that everything is fine. Hope this helps !

Hello. Since she is acting normal & eating, you are fine to just watch her for now. If she continues to act well over the next 24-48 hours, then she should just continue to do well. If it was only one grape and you managed to take it whole out, you don't need to take him to the vet, he will be fine. if you suspect he might have eaten even one entire grape then you need to take him to the emergency vet to get an injection to induce vomiting.

I'm so glad you took Peanut to the emergency clinic right away and that they were able to make him vomit up the grape. The concern for the next few hours is that since they gave him medication to vomit the grape, some dogs will continue to be nauseated (despite anti-nausea medication) and will vomit again if fed or allowed too much water. So, that is the concern for the next few hours. If there is a possibility that Peanut ate any additional grapes, I would recommend having blood checked in 3 days to make sure his kidney values are normal. Otherwise, as long as Peanut returns to his normal appetite and energy level without any vomiting, there aren't any special instructions for grape ingestion that was immediately vomited. I'm glad that your vet recommended that Charlie vomit up the grape that he'd eaten. The biggest challenge with grape ingestion is that there is no known "safe" amount. With this type of potential toxicity, some dogs can experience acute kidney failure after eating just one grape, while others can be perfectly fine after eating a bunch. As far as using hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting, some studies have shown that there can be considerable damage and irritation to the esophagus and stomach due to hydrogen peroxide. Generally, I do not recommend using it for this reason. I understand that it's really challenging to measure and force-feed this substance, so it's really easy to give a little extra. Since Charlie has not stopped vomiting and is acting normally, odds are very good that he'll be absolutely fine. Just keep a close eye on him for changes in his overall demeanor, appetite, vomiting, hard swallowing (gulping not associated with eating or drinking), or any other concerns. If problems arise, be sure to take him to your vet, but again, odds are very much in your favor. I hope that everything goes well!

Did he eat anything red in colors? Treats? If he did it may be from that. If he is acting fine and not lethargic, eating well, no bloody diarrhea, no more vomiting then I would say you can wait until tomorrow. If he becomes lethargic, not eating, vomiting continues diarrhea then I would recommend bringing him to a veterinarian sooner. I hope Otis feels better soon. Oh no, poor Rosie! Grapes are highly toxic to dogs and can cause acute kidney failure, leading to signs of lethargy, vomiting and inappetence. Rosie needs to go to an ER vet immediately, as this could be a life-threatening emergency. The vet will be able to examine her, determine her kidney values on lab testing (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis), and start her on IV fluid therapy with other supportive medications. Good luck!
