My dog ate chocolate granola, vomiting & bloated. What should I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! That is not a toxic dose of chocolate for Lucy. If she’s acting off there could be something else going on- a stomach bug, foreign body, something else she got into. If you are concerned about her I would take her to a vet for an exam and possibly blood work and xrays. They can also give her medications to calm her stomach if needed. If it is just the typical granola bar that only contains a few chips then she is likely going to be ok but again would depend on the amount. If this happened recently within the last 2 hours, there is still time to induce vomiting. You can always contact ASPCS animal poison center to let them know exactly how much chocolate there is which will depend on the type of bars (let them know the kind). I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food tonight, then in the morning feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. The amount she ate will cause minimal to no reaction. At most you may see some GI upset, but other than that, she should be ok. I hope this helps!

There is likely not enough chocolate in the cookies to cause chocolate toxicity (also since she is a large dog). However, even if it was too much chocolate, it is already past the point of being able to decontaminate her (remove the toxins). I suspect she isn't felling well because of stomach upset (diarrhea) from eating the cookies. I would recommend feeding her a bland diet for 2-3 days (boiled chicken and boiled rice) then transition her back to her normal diet. If that doesn't help, I would recommend taking her to a vet to make sure there is nothing else going on. Good luck and kisses to Bella!

If this happened recently, ie within the past 2 hours or so, you should take him to a vet for inducing vomiting. If this has been longer then you need to watch your dog for a tummy ache, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, as he could get pancreatitis from the food he is not used to. Also the wrappers could cause trouble. Watch his feces, wrappers should show up as they pass through the intestinal canal. If he shows any signs of discomfort, please take him to a veterinarian or Pet ER.

Hello. The amount of chocolate in those granola bars is not enough to be toxic. The most I would expect would possibly be loose stools and maybe some nausea from the peroxide. I think Bandits will be fine !!
