My dog ate chocolate granola, vomiting & bloated. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

I have a 2 year old mix breed( maltise/Yorkie dog. In the afternoon she a small bag of chocolate granola. She it’s vomiting not with diarrhea, she is alert moving and playful. I am worried because she has a distended abdomen but at palpation she doesn’t reflect pain but just a little disconfort. What do you recommend?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Luna. It could be this granola has upset her stomach causing the bloating, and it can take up to 24 hours for signs of chocolate toxicity to show. Keep a close eye on her and if you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, a loss of appetite, or muscle tremors, have her seen by a vet right away. Best of luck.
