My 3-month husky puppy ate gentamicin eye drops. Is it toxic?

At worst, you may see some vomiting and/or diarrhea. As long as Layla is behaving normally otherwise, either can be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly tot the regular diet afterwards. Monitor for persistent vomiting/diarrhea, extreme lethargy, loss of appetite or wobbly gait. These symptoms should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Unless the eye infection is caused by something else in the body, systemic antibiotics are rarely used or indicated. Ophthalmic antibiotics are much more likely to cure an infection of the eye in a timely manner. Sometimes what looks like an infection isn't actually caused by bacteria. It could also be caused by corneal abrasion or ulceration, allergies, foreign body, autoimmune disorder, etc. I also prefer other types of injectable antibiotics over gentamicin. It is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that can be kidney toxic and has a pretty long list of adverse effects. I only use it in cases that do not respond to safer antibiotics.

He can have an eye infection, but he may also have gotten dust in his eyes. If he recently was around other dogs I recommend bringing him to a veterinarian since it can be pink eye. Otherwise, I recommend rinsing his eyes with saline and if the redness doesn't resolve or gets worse bring him to a veterinarian. He may need eye drops. For a dog this size, it has a possibility of causing damage to the stomach, intestines and kidneys, but I would have to know how big of a bottle it was. If it was half of a 15g bottle, then the dose should not be too harmful, but it's difficult to know for sure. Watch for signs of vomiting, diarrhea and a decrease in appetite as signs that she is having an adverse reaction. If you notice any of this, then she should go to the vet immediately for treatment. If Aspen’s eye is red, but seems otherwise normal then you can try using this eye gel that you can buy at Petco. If it is just a little bit of discharge, then I would continue to monitor it. Tobramycin is an antibiotic, and if it was prescribed for Jackie, it should be safe. But you don't want to accidentally treat a bacterial infection when the true cause of the discharge is something like a corneal ulcer. Applying this medication before a vet makes a diagnosis may make it harder for the vet to determine the cause of the issue, if needed. Use a warm wet washcloth to remove the discharge. If it continues in a couple of hours, I would recommend that you call the vet that prescribes the medication to see if they recommend an exam or that you use the ointment.
