I would take Zeus into a vet immediately. Garlic is toxic to dogs, and because the garlic was a powder, it would be even more concentrated and take less of it to cause toxic symptoms. This is an emergency. If you suspect a pesticide you should call the pet poison control helpline. Otherwise, when I see older animals present this way through the ER I am very worried about abdominal bleeding from a tumor. I would not wait. He should be see by a vet ASAP.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Koda! My biggest concern is the butter more than the garlic especially now that she is vomiting. High amounts of fat can cause severe gastro-intestinal upset and/or pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can be mild (just vomiting, diarrhea, not eating) to very severe. Garlic causes oxidative damage to the red blood cells causing an anemia. A lot of it probably could cause stomach upset. Since it has been 12 hours and now she is coughing I would get her seen as soon as possible by your Vet. Good luck!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Harvey. Garlic is toxic to dogs as it damages red blood cells. However, there was not a likely a lot on the pizza he ate if it was just flavoring on the crust. If there were whole cloves though, this would be more worrisome. Either way, it is safest for him to see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
