My dog ate Flucloxacillin. What symptoms should I watch for?

Oh no, that was naughty of Baxter! He took about five times the recommended dose of ampicillin. This will likely cause a reaction in the form of vomiting, drooling, and diarrhea, but more serious effects such as tremors or seizures. If you see tremors or seizures, Baxter will have to see a vet immediately. Should you see vomiting and diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

Most likely this amount of amoxicillin is not going to cause Theodore any harm. However any medication can cause GI irritation like vomiting and diarrhea. IF you notice any diarrhea I would recommend trying a bland diet for 12-24 hours of boiled chicken and white rice. Flour in itself does not tend to cause any issues though depending on the amount ingested, he may experience increased thirst and possibly some gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting, diarrhea and/or loss of appetite. If you notice any signs have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Otherwise, he is likely going to be fine. Good luck and have a good day!

The amount of antibiotic he ingested is higher than typically used so he may experience some gastrointestinal issues but it should not be toxic. You could give him a probiotic for a few days (Proviable or Fortiflora) and monitor for any abnormal signs. If you notice anything abnormal then he should be examined by a vet for treatment.

The amount that Cody ingested is not likely to cause any abnormal side effects related to fluoride toxicity. I would monitor Cody for signs of lethargy, trembling, inappetance, seizures, restlessness, labored breathing or diarrhea and if these signs develop, take Cody in to be seen by a veterinarian immediately. Based on the normal dose range of fluoxetine for dogs, your dog received less than double the recommended dose. Signs of overdose include lethargy and hyper salivation, while seizures can occur in dogs who have massive overdoses (this would not be considered a massive overdose). Because your dog has only taken a little over the highest recommended dose, he should be ok but you can take him into a vet to have vomiting induced to be safe. I never recommend doing it at home due to the risk of aspiration and the fact that hydrogen peroxide (which people commonly use at home to induce vomiting) can and does cause gastritis often worse than the initial problem. You can monitor him, and you do see any side effect, you can take him into the vet.
