My dog ate diabetic dog food and is acting strange. Is he poisoned?

No, he cannot become diabetic or have high blood pressure problem but depending on the exact drugs and dosage it could cause him some short term problems such as low blood pressure and low blood sugar levels, if he seems lethargic you need to take him to the ER urgently.

A single unscheduled meal is unlikely to cause any significant issues, so try not to worry :) I would continue on Duchess's normal insulin dosing and feeding schedule, and monitor her for any problems. If you have any concerns, contact your regular veterinarian to see if they want you to make any changes.

If the only ingredient in the glucose tablets is glucose (sugar), he should be fine. Very large doses of sugar in dogs can cause excitement, high heart rate, jittery feelings, and even vomiting and diarrhea. I would wait about 12 hours after his last dose of insulin. I would also make sure he eats something before giving the insulin at that time. If you are not going to be up at the 12 hour mark I would recommend holding off the insulin until tomorrow. If you give the insulin now you risk his glucose going to low even if he just ate. Hello, thank you for your question. I would not give more insulin to your dog in spit of getting into this candy. It is possible that by giving additional insulin we could make her blood sugar drop too low. One bout of significant hyperglycemia should not cause serious derangement of the diabetes. If there was any chocolate in these candies however, I would be concerned that your dog could experience chocolate toxicity. If there was chocolate in these candies I would recommend contacting the ASPCA Poison Control for further recommendations. Hello. There are many aspects going on here. Firstly, the lump on the other dog won't make your dog sick, however if it smells it could be infection that would make the diabetes uncontrollable. Secondly, if the other dog is diabetic it should be on twuce a day feeding with its insulin, also control of the diabetes will control the constant hunger. It sounds like the other dog needs to be seen by a vet to get control and management of the diabetes. Good luck with them.

Hypoglycemia can be an emergency, and may present as shakiness, lethargy, listlessness, lack of coordination, confusion , lack of consciousness, seizures, and can even be fatal.
