In general, try to make the injections as close to every 12 hours as you can. Most pets will still do well even if the injections are sometimes 13 hours apart.If it is going to be longer than 13 hours, talk with your vet about maybe adjusting the amount of insulin to give. Hello. Depending on the insulin, yes, it is best to distribute the insulin twice a day to coincide with two meals a day. I just do not think it is appropriate to feed a diabetic dog only once a day. I believe you can get much better control if you divide his total daily calories into 2 meals spaced every 12 hours, & to give the total insulin, also divided into 2 even doses. I would wake Knut and have him eat his dinner. It's important that he eats so he can get his insulin injection, do not give it to him unless he eats. Wake him, have him eat, then give him his injection.
