My dog ate human diabetes or blood pressure medicine. Is he okay?

This is actually a quite safe dose and should not cause severe side effects as long as Jet is not taking any other medication and is healthy otherwise. It can cause lower blood pressure and increased urination. I would monitor him for the next 12-24 hours and if you notice any abnormal sign like no urination, increased thirst, vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy (and any other sign), I would recommend an immediate check up.

Hi, Lisinopril is used in the treatment of both heart failure and hypertension (high blood pressure) in dogs. In dogs required the drug the safe dose is 0.5 mg/kg which in the case of 13 lb (6.5 kg) puppy that would be 3.25mg which makes 10mg an overdose. Overdose may cause lethargy, increased heart rate, vomiting, and hypotension (low blood pressure). Seek veterinary care immediately. If it has happened less than an hour ago the vet may be able to induce vomiting. If not he will need to be monitored and supportive care depending on signs.

If your mom is feeding a prescription dog food for diabetes it will not harm another dog if ingested. If she is feeding a holistic diet unfortunately I cannot say for sure. I'm very concerned that Sony could become markedly hypotensive (very low blood pressure) after taking these pills. Given that he is a chihuahua, the mg/kg dose that he ingested is most likely a VERY large overdose and could be fatal. I recommend attempting to make him vomit as soon as possible by administering hydrogen peroxide to him orally. You may give him a teaspoon (you may have to use a turkey baster to help get it in his mouth) to try to make him vomit. If he does not vomit after 10 minutes, you may try giving him another teaspoon. Ultimately if this is unsuccessful, I recommend bringing him to your nearest emergency veterinarian as soon as possible. That way, a veterinarian can use medication that is injectable to induce vomiting. He/she can also administer medications to try to reduce absorption of this medication and prevent it from having its dangerous effects. Again, I am very concerned about Sony. I hope this is helpful.

If it has been two days with no issues Casper will likely be ok. I recommend monitoring him for decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, dark stools and/or pain/pale gums for one week to ten days past the possible ingestion time. If you see any of those signs he needs to be seen by his veterinarian.

If the only ingredient in the glucose tablets is glucose (sugar), he should be fine. Very large doses of sugar in dogs can cause excitement, high heart rate, jittery feelings, and even vomiting and diarrhea. Diabetes in dogs is often idiopathic (no underlying cause) and is just a genetic predisposition in dogs. It can sometimes be caused by eating fatty foods and being overweight often, but more often than not its genetic and breed specific in dogs. Cat diabetes is more often caused by being overweight. Since this is a supplement, then long term effects are minimal, but if wondering you should call the manufacturer of the supplement to ask for a list. Each manufacturer is different, so its best to go to the source with questions. : ) If your pet has an underlying cardiac disease, then that disease can lead to high blood pressure, so its best to get Chhutki's pressures checked regularly to determine if she needs additional regulating medication(s).
