My dog ate a balloon and seems okay. Is an emergency vet needed?

You can take Rowena into a vet now to have vomiting induce, or you can keep an eye on her. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, you need to have her seen by a vet immediately.

That's not good that Daisy ate a balloon! It's good that she is pooping like normal, and there is a good chance this balloon will pass without problem. It can take up to 72 hours for it to pass however, so continue to keep an eye on her. If she stops eating, starts vomiting, has diarrhea, stops passing feces, and/or becomes very lethargic, then I would take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hello. Pancakes should be able to pass this as it is pretty small & pliable. If it has been more than a few hours since she ate the balloon, it is possible it has already passed out of the stomach into the intestines. I have seen cases where kitties have vomited up strange things a week later. Just watch her over the next 5-7 days for a loss of appetite, lethargy, diarrhea, & protrusion of the third eyelids. These are the tissues in the inner corner of each eye & when you can see them covering at least half the eyes, it is a clear indication that Pancakes does not feel well. Since she is exhibiting some signs of eating foreign material, it is very important at this point to make sure that she is not obstructed as that will require therapy. I would highly recommend you consider having her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check on this with abdominal radiographs and proceed with therapy accordingly. Keep in mind that in some cases of an obstruction, surgery is necessary and the sooner it is diagnosed, the better the outcome tends to be. Have a good day!

I would definitely bring Milo to your veterinarian as soon as possible so they can induce vomiting and try to get the rubber bands out of his stomach. Rubber bands have the potential to become foreign body obstructions, meaning they can get stuck either in the stomach or intestines. If this occurs, this is a surgical emergency, which can cost several thousand dollars. There is a chance he could pass the rubber bands in his feces, but I do not believe it is worth the risk. If you are unable to get to a veterinarian within an hour, you can try to induce vomiting at home by giving him 1/2 of a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide. I hope this is helpful!

If the balloon was an average sized latex balloon I’d guess she’ll pass it without problems. If it was a larger balloon or mylar there might be more concern. If you see Boujee vomit or if her appetite is decreased I’d recommend contacting your vet.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Honey is very cute! If she chewed up the arm in to pieces she will likely be fine. If she swallowed it whole then it could pass in her stool, she could vomit it up on her own or it could becomes stuck and cause a blockage. It is best, if swallowed whole and it just happened, to take her to the Vet right away and have them induce vomiting. We do not recommend hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. Signs of a blockage are vomiting, not eating and lethargy. I hope this helps!
