My dog ate cat poop, vomited. Toxoplasmosis risk for pregnant owner?

Oh dear! It's very common for dogs to do this, unfortunately - most of them love cat poop, and will eat it any chance they get. The good news is, it rarely causes any problems apart from some mild stomach upset as long as he only ate a small amount. If he ingested a large amount of cat litter, there is a chance that this could cause an obstruction in his intestines - this is unusual in my experience, but can happen in dogs who consume really large amounts. Signs of this problem would include repeated episodes of vomiting, not wanting to eat, and not having bowel movements. If you notice any of these issues over the next day or two, then I would recommend taking Marcellus to the vet right away to be checked. But as long as he is eating fine and acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry.

I would just monitor him for any signs of illness such as inappetence, vomiting, diarrhea and/or lethargy. If any of these are observed, have him evaluated by a veterinarian. Not all cats carry toxoplasma and of those that do, they do not shed it everyday. The toxo eggs are not immediately infective in fresh faeces but take a day or so to mature and develop before they are spread to people if eaten. Brief contact with faeces which is washed off immediately is not a major concern as the mature eggs would need to be ingested in order to contract it

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Your Doctor can test you. If you are negative then you should avoid gardening or doing things with the soil as toxoplasma lives there as well. Then I would have your husband clean Cecile's litter box or you do it wearing gloves and wash your hands. I would also keep your cats indoors. He should be fine, it's possible that he will develop a gastrointestinal infection but that is only if he ate a significant amount of cat poo, otherwise you are not likely to encounter any serious symptoms.

There is very little you can do other than watch your dog for a few days. Should she get diarrhea, then I would take her to a veterinarian for an exam. There are not that many types of bacteria that your dog can pick up from that and get diarrhea herself.

There is a small chance that the toad could harm the puppies if it was a poisonous toad. However, once ingested, the stomach's acidic environment should breakdown the toad and prevent any issues from occurring.
