My dog ate a carnitas burrito and threw up. Should I go to the vet?

I would think the burrito could certainly cause some stomach upset but I wouldn't think you would see significant lethargy unless Daisy is dehydrated. It is possible that something else caused the vomiting. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian - if she is still eating and does not seem painful you could probably wait to see your regular vet, but if not I'd recommend seeing an emergency vet.

The good news is, I would not expect this to cause any serious problems for your dog - the only thing that might possibly be on a burrito that could be toxic to a dog is onions, and it would normally take a larger amount of these to cause any serious problems. Beef, cheese, tortillas, etc. are not toxic and should not be a major problem in most cases :) It's very possible that your pup could have a mild upset stomach from this, especially if he isn't used to eating "human food." Rarely, eating something like this could possibly cause a more serious GI issue called pancreatitis - symptoms of this problem would include repeated episodes of vomiting, bloody diarrhea, not eating, and acting lethargic. If any of these signs develop, it would be best to take your dog to the vet for treatment. Otherwise, it should be okay to monitor him at home for the next day or two to make sure that you don't see any problems.

At worst, you may see some stomach upset (vomiting, diarrhea). If so, withhold food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount if there is no vomiting. Feed bland until symptoms resolve then transition slowly to the regular diet. Symptoms that should be addressed by your vet include persistent vomiting or diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

This is not a toxic food (even if she ate a lot), so I wouldn't be too worried. If she is otherwise acting normal, then it's likely that this just upset her stomach. Usually they vomit once or twice, then get over it. It's best not to feed her until morning while her stomach settles. If she starts vomiting multiple times (three or more) and is acting lethargic or abnormal, then I would be more concerned and recommend a visit to the vet. Hi there and thanks for posting this morning! Nachos- oh no! If he ate a lot of them or they were covered in cheese or other ingredients such as hot peppers, onions, etc, and he doesn't vomit them in in the next 15 mins, then please take him to a veterinary emergency clinic to induce vomiting. Nachos can cause not only stomach upset, but can cause pancreatitis from the excessive fat in the cheese and other ingredients as toppings can be potentially toxic such as onions. I hope he vomits them soon but if not, he may need a little help doing this at a veterinary emergency clinic. Best of luck to you and Junior!

It is really not recommended that you feed him all these human foods. They are not good for him and, as you can see, they can upset his stomach. As they get older, just like in people, they get more intolerant of certain foods. Dog food only from now on. I would not be overly concerned if he only vomited once and seems otherwise fine. I have no idea what he threw up in that photo. If he continues to vomit or shows any other signs of illness then you need to take him to the vet for an exam.

The problem with it is the presence of onion or garlic which can cause intoxication. I would recommend a check up if that is the case as signs can be subtle and be evident even after 24-48hours. If not present, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
