My dog ate a cayenne pill. Will she be okay? What should I watch for?

Some dogs are more sensitive to it than others, and can get mild GI upset. However, most likely your dog will be just fine. Let your vet know if you see any vomiting, diarrhea, or decreased appetite. Hello, thank you for your question about Maggie. Based on my research on these chews I do not believe that Maggie will experience any significant side effects. The chews contain natural calming substances such as B vitamins, etc. You are correct in that she may experience some stomach upset. If you do notice that she becomes quite sedate/lethargic or is having difficulty walking I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian. Hope this helps!

Brave girl! She may develop some vomiting and or diarrhea, as this food may cause some irritation to her GI tract. Offer her a bland diet such as boiled chicken and white rice for the next couple of days. I'm surprised that Moxxi ate a Vitamin C tablet because they are usually very bitter. Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, so we don't need to worry about toxicity, but high levels of Vitamin C can irritate the stomach and cause diarrhea. I would be worried that Moxxi may develop some stomach upset from that level of Vitamin C. It would be worthwhile to contact your veterinarian if she starts vomiting or develops diarrhea. Hello. There is very little information on this product in veterinary medicine but based on information on similarly classed drugs, there should be little if any problems & is generally considered to be well tolerated. According to Plumb's Veterinary Formulary, Esomeprazole could potentially cause GI distress ( anorexia, colic, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea & C. diff. infections ) as well as rare hematologic & neurologic disturbances & urinary tract infections . Information on acute toxicity is also limited in veterinary medicine, but the LD50, or amount of this drug needed to kill 50% of rats administered this medication is greater than 4000mg per kg. Nugget consumed the equivalent of 7 mg per kg. So, I would just keep a good watch on Nugget. If she shows any GI signs, they should resolve on their own. If nothing is seen in the next 24 hours, you can stop worrying, but this one pill does not warrant any medical attention at this time. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

I would watch for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and inappetence. If any of these occur I recommend taking Indie to a veterinarian. She could develop pancreatitis from this or just a bad gastrointestinal upset. If she ate any of the bone from the wings they typically dissolve in the stomach but sometimes can cause more harm. I would not worry too much. The worst thing that might happen is that she will get loose stool for a day or possibly regurgitate/vomit some of it. I would let her skip a meal to settle the stomach and guts and she should be fine. Make sure she has plenty of fresh water available.
