My large dog ate another dog's antibiotic pills. Is it an emergency?

The amount of antibiotic he ingested is higher than typically used so he may experience some gastrointestinal issues but it should not be toxic. You could give him a probiotic for a few days (Proviable or Fortiflora) and monitor for any abnormal signs. If you notice anything abnormal then he should be examined by a vet for treatment.

Oh no, that was naughty of Baxter! He took about five times the recommended dose of ampicillin. This will likely cause a reaction in the form of vomiting, drooling, and diarrhea, but more serious effects such as tremors or seizures. If you see tremors or seizures, Baxter will have to see a vet immediately. Should you see vomiting and diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

If he just ate them, you can take him into a vet now to have vomiting induced to get them out. Otherwise, you can watch him. This likely will cause GI upset in the form of vomiting and diarrhea. If you see that, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

Hello. This is twice the normal dude for him, but this is a very safe antibiotic with very low chance of toxicity. I doubt that Skipper will suffer any side effects, but to guard against nausea...try to feed him a little to reduce the chance that he could vomit . Vomiting may be induced depending on how many tablets he may have consumed and based on his current weight. I hope this information helps!

Most likely this amount of amoxicillin is not going to cause Theodore any harm. However any medication can cause GI irritation like vomiting and diarrhea. IF you notice any diarrhea I would recommend trying a bland diet for 12-24 hours of boiled chicken and white rice. He should be fine if he ate just one. Just monitor him closely for the next couple days for any abnormal symptoms. If any are noticed then he should see a vet ASAP. This NSAID ingredient is a derivative of aspirin but not as problematic. He should be fine but not all animals react the same to medications.
