My dog ate one Advil. Should I take him to the vet right away?

Our 55lb German shorthair pointer may have eaten 1 200 mg gel cap Advil. Should we bring him to the vet right away?

Fortunately this dose is low enough that it should not cause a concern, as long as you are certain more than one capsule was not ingested. Hunter may have ingested 8 mg/kg of ibuprofen based on the weight you provided. Ibuprofen can cause stomach and intestinal ulcers at doses higher than 25 mg/kg and kidney damage at 120 mg/kg. I would still recommend monitoring him for signs of nausea or diarrhea, but veterinary intervention is not required. If Hunter has any underlying medical conditions or is on any medications other than heartworm and flea/tick prevention this could change and I would recommend contacting the Pet Poison Helpline: https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/
