My dog ate A&D ointment. Will he be okay? Is it toxic for dogs?

Hello. Thank you for the excellent pictures. It really helps to see what has happened. There really does not look like Leo could have ingested enough of the ointment to cause any problems at all. My guess is he discovered that the ointment was pretty yucky & left things alone. Based on your pictures, he will be perfectly fine & there is nothing to worry about. Bag balm is non toxic, but it could cause Snow some GI upset in the form of vomiting or diarrhea if she ate a lot of it. Should you see that, withhold food for 12 to 24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet.

If your dog did not eat the actual tube and only the content, there should be no problem as non of these ingredients is toxic. However, there is a possibility that Max may get diarrhea. If that happens, you can do the following: Take your dog off food for about 12 hrs, then feed bland food such as boiled rice with boiled white chicken meat in small quantities over several feeds a day. Do this for a day, then start replacing small quantities of rice with his normal food over the next two days until he is at the normal quantity of his regular food. If the diarrhea does not go away by the end of the third day, or your dog is lethargic and dehydrated,you will need to take your dog to a veterinarian for an exam.
