My chihuahua ate an acorn. Is it dangerous? Should I make him vomit?

They contain gallotanins, a combination of gallic acid and tannic acid which can be harmful to dogs causing stomach upset and even kidney disease. In addition, if he ate enough of them, it could cause a GI obstruction. I would not let him eat them. I hope this helps!

I do not think you need to induce vomiting. the poop will get digested. Usually this is not dangerous, however there is a possibility that your dog may get some indigestion, ie maybe vomiting or diarrhea which would be due to bacteria your dog is not used to. If that is the case, you may want to withhold feed for about 12-24 hrs, then feed rice and some chicken and then slowly introduce his normal feed.

Oh no, that was naughty of Junior! Cocoa is toxic to dogs, but it depends on how much was in the donut as to whether or not it leads to toxic symptoms. In looking up the ingredients, I see that it contains less than 2% of cocoa, so the amount in this little donut is not likely to cause toxic symptoms. Junior should be ok, but keep an eye on him for now. To be safe, you can take him into a vet to safely induce vomiting. I don't recommend inducing vomiting at home. That's because hydrogen peroxide (which is used at home to induce vomiting) can and does cause severe esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem, so it's always preferred to advise emergency care. Take him into a vet now to induce vomiting.

Hi, apples seeds in small quantities are not toxic to dogs. They do contain a small amount of a toxin, but he would have to eat many, many seeds in order to have any signs. Your dog should be just fine without inducing vomiting.

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would be more concerned about the lethargy for 24 hours than the acorn she just ate. Acorns are generally not toxic to dogs unless eaten in large quantities. At most, GI upset such as diarrhea or vomiting could occur. The biggest concern with eating acorns is the possibility of the acorn causing an intestinal obstruction. I would advise you to take Buddy into his veterinarian if he is still lethargic tomorrow. There are a variety of medical conditions that can cause lethargy, so having Buddy examined and perhaps preforming some blood work on him will help get some answers. Peroxide can be damaging to the esophagus and stomach as it causes a lot of inflammation and irritation. Taking her to a vet so they can give an injectable medicine to induce vomiting is an option. The concern is it has potential to get stuck half way up and cause problems if lodged there. Sometimes this will not pass through the intestines and will require surgery to be removed. Having her asses by a vet now would be best. If not you should monitor for vomiting, lethargy, anorexia and diarrhea

I am sorry Chico is sick. Chocolate at high doses can cause sever gastric upset. I am concerned that the continued vomiting will cause dehydration and issues with kidney function. I would recommend taking Chico to the vet for medications to stop the vomiting and rehydrate him. Also I would start an over the counter anti acid to help calm down his stomach. You can try a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice once his vomiting has stopped. I hope that helps and Chico feels better soon
