My dog got burned by ash. Is the scab infected or just healing?

I will repost with a few added pieces of information since this seems to be a duplicate question. Poor girl. It sounds like perhaps these areas may be infected and in need or oral antibiotics or topical antibiotics to heal properly. Hard to say for sure without seeing this. You can share a photo via private consultation request (if needed). You can try cleaning these areas with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water. A thin layer of topical Neosporin or "Hot spot spray" (from your local pet store, this is preferred) can also be applied if the sores are not too deep. If these areas don't start to look better within 3-7 days, then its time to see a vet for proper wound management and oral antibiotics. I hope your poor girl gets better soon!

The wound looks puffy from the photo (but I would need to palpate it to know for sure). The crusty area next to it could indicate another wound that is scabbed over or it could indicate a bacterial infection or ringworm (which humans can get). Your best option is to have Sophie examined by the veterinarian in case the wound is infected. She would be placed on antibiotics if that is the case. They could also test her for ringworm if it looks suspicious on exam. Make sure to protect the wound from scratching or licking. Sophie may need to wear an elizabethan collar if she can lick the area. A doggie shirt can help protect it from scratching. You do not want to disrupt the scab (it's nature's bandaide). It is never wrong to have something checked out to be on the safe side. That said, if the scab is superficial and there is now swelling around it then I think it would be ok to monitor for 24 hours or so for any changes. From the pictures, the skin appears red and inflamed. It does look like it is infected. While this may not be a true emergency, I would recommend getting in to see your veterinarian very soon. Pookie will need the area shaved and cleaned up. Your vet may prescribe an antibiotic for this as well depending. Until you can get to your vet, you can keep the area clean and dry and use a mild soap and water to clean the wound. If Pookie is licking it, you can put on ECollar on her to prevent licking.

I recommend seeing a vet tomorrow to determine the cause and start treatment. In the meantime you can wash it tonight with a mild soap (like Dial) and water to relieve some of the irritation. It looks like a bacterial infection, maybe starting in a little spot of clipper burn, there's no way to be sure. I would clean the area with some mild soap and warm water, don't scrub too hard but try to soften and remove the crusty material, being sure to remove any trace of the soap afterward so it doesn't remain on the skin and irritate it further. Do this morning and night and if the area does not significantly improve in the next few days or gets worse, get him in to see your vet for an exam

This looks like an area that was scraped and now has a secondary bacterial infection. Please clean the area with a warm wet cloth and once rinsed and dried apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. By washing it you should remove the dried up crusty skin. It may look more irritated but having it clean and open to the air it should heal more quickly. The rest of the skin looks fine. It may take several weeks or more to have the fur fill in.
