Artificial insemination typically requires the supervision and expertise of a veterinary specialist called a theriogenologist. Insemination involves the pairing of a suitable male and female, and then close monitoring of the female's reproductive cycle. As she nears ovulation, the male is brought in and stimulated to provide the material for insemination. The semen is then checked under microscope and tested for viability. Once it is proven viable, it is then inserted into the female via insemination, and the female is then monitored for signs of the insemination taking hold.
