How is artificial insemination performed on a dog for breeding?

It is possible to breed bitches using artificial insemination which your vet can perform but you should think very carefully about breeding from any animal with poor behaviour traits as this is often passed to puppies. Also poorly sociable mothers often do not nurse well and need close supervision or even bottle feeding of pups

There is no evidence that a female dog actually experiences an orgasm, so that is not a consideration where artificial inseminating a dog. The most important factor is that she is in heat at the time of insemination.

For bulldogs I recommend AI, working with a veterinarian who ideally has the ability to run progesterone in hospital to help with optimal timing for the breeding. I think the safest thing to do here is artificial insemination. You have a dog with a geneitc issue that won't be resolved by assiting him with insertion. Also, it isn't natural to interfere with the mating process in this manner either, so it is best to go forward with standard artificial insemination practices that are straightforward and safer for both pets involved. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I don't think anything is wrong per se. We sedate the females at my clinic for AI so we are sure that we are through the cervix and are doing it sterile. It could be normal that some fluid comes out. If it was a lot then I think you didn't get the straw through the cervix and I would worry that it won't take. Can you do the AI again with a Vet that does this routinely! I wish you the best!

One time can be enough to get pregnant, especially if you did the AI when she ovulated. At this point in time, it's probably too late to do it again, but if it doesn't work this time, I'd speak to her vet about doing the process twice the next time she is in heat to maximize your chances. If two pets aren't interested in mating, you can try pheromones such as the Adaptil diffuser. However, in most situations you will have to resort to artificial insemination through your specialized veterinarian if you want to get the female pregnant.
