My male dog's penis isn't fully firm for breeding. What should I do?

You can try leashing her so she doesn't try to walk away from him or lay down but I would be surprised if this helps. Sometimes it is just that particular male she does not like. If there are other Dogue breeders around maybe you should try another male. The only real suggestion I have at this point is to have the male's sperm collected and then inseminate Gracie via artificial insemination (AI). I don't know if your veterinarian is able to do this in Bangladesh so you will have to consult with them to see if this can be done. If two pets aren't interested in mating, you can try pheromones such as the Adaptil diffuser. However, in most situations you will have to resort to artificial insemination through your specialized veterinarian if you want to get the female pregnant. This may be a problem the male has. The only thing you can do is to take both dogs to the veterinarian and have them examined. The male may have a problem with the bulbous part of the penis in that it may not be able to expand and tie, the female may have a vaginal problem. There may be a libido problem, or the female may not be ready. This can be examined and ruled out by your veterinarian. Please see your vet for an exam, preferably during this heat cycle.

I am sorry to hear about Brusier. If you are unable to expose his penis from his prepuce at home I would be concerned that he could have a stricture (a narrowing) of the opening of the prepuce that the penis has to slide through, or another anatomical abnormality if you have never seen his penis out previously (we can have congenital abnormalities that may affect this). I would recommend an examination by your vet if this is an issue to be sure there isn't any inflammation/infection around the penis causing it to be painful or swollen and inhibiting its movement. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the problem.

It would be best to bring Ripple to your vet or theriogenologist for a complete exam. It is possible there is a functional issue or stricture causing the problem that needs to be addressed, and your vet can also perform a breeding soundness exam in addition.

It is possible to breed bitches using artificial insemination which your vet can perform but you should think very carefully about breeding from any animal with poor behaviour traits as this is often passed to puppies. Also poorly sociable mothers often do not nurse well and need close supervision or even bottle feeding of pups

For bulldogs I recommend AI, working with a veterinarian who ideally has the ability to run progesterone in hospital to help with optimal timing for the breeding. You're going to have statistically better success with AI - the specific technique used (vaginal vs cervical vs surgical insemination) will depend on the type and quality of semen you're using (fresh, chilled, or frozen), as well as the age and health history of the female. It sounds like you had good luck with natural breeding in the past, but AI is going to give you statistically better outcomes.
