My dog's antibiotic turned yellow and crumbly. Will he be okay?

Most likely this amount of amoxicillin is not going to cause Theodore any harm. However any medication can cause GI irritation like vomiting and diarrhea. IF you notice any diarrhea I would recommend trying a bland diet for 12-24 hours of boiled chicken and white rice. If this does not help than Theodore should go see a vet for medications to resolve the GI upset. Hope that helps . thanks for using pet coach

Oh no, that was naughty of Baxter! He took about five times the recommended dose of ampicillin. This will likely cause a reaction in the form of vomiting, drooling, and diarrhea, but more serious effects such as tremors or seizures. If you see tremors or seizures, Baxter will have to see a vet immediately. Should you see vomiting and diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

It could be the bottle that the Clavamox was put in making it appear orange from the outside. It should be a creamy white to yellow color. Hi and thanks for posting! From the pictures, the stools appears to be somewhat firm, formed, but perhaps a little on the softer side which can be normal if this is his usual #2. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic which can cause softer or looser stools to form. if you are worried, you can always bring in a sample to your veterinarian for closer inspection.

Amoxicillin and Clavamox are very similar antibiotics so they are typically prescribed at the same time. They each can cause nausea and vomiting. So that may be the cause of the vomiting he is experiencing. He may not be eating due to gastrointestinal upset or being in pain. If possible, I would contact his veterinarian to see if his medications need to adjusted and if more pain medicine can be added. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as they can be toxic to dogs. Offer small frequent meals such as warmed canned food or water mixed into his dry kibble. Yes, long term storage out of the foil would be a problem but for the short course of treatment they should be fine. They now have clavamox in chewable tablets that are easy to break and most pets love the taste.
