My dog had anal bleeding and grass in poop. Should I worry?

If she passed blood in her urine then that would be concerning for things that can affect the urinary tract such as a urinary tract infection, urine stones or even a tumor. Further diagnostics would include a urine culture and abdominal imaging. I recommend that you have Bell evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi and thanks for posting! This may be due to him ingesting a large amount of grass and perhaps other plant material which irritated his gastrointestinal tract. Sometimes there can be a a bit of blood present when the intestinal tract is inflamed or irritated. Certainly, this could be related to an ongoing parasitic infection or may have another cause entirely. You may try deworming him again with a broad spectrum dewormer such as Drontal Plus as well as placing him a on a bland diet of boiled chicken, rice, and plain canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) for a couple days and continue to monitor his signs at home. If the bloody stools do not resolve or he develops any further signs such as lethargy, vomiting, decreased appetite, then there is something more concerning going on here and will need to be worked up with his veterinarian. The concern I have is that he may have more mulch still in his system given that one piece has come out. I'd monitor him for now. Blood in the feces can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. If this continues, I recommend that you have Sami evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It sounds as Chloe is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

If he’s otherwise normal you should be fine watching him tonight. He could have a ruptured anal abscess, or be passing a bone. He could also have a mass inside the rectum. Severe bloody diarrhea in a dog that is lethargic and not eating is a medical emergency but this sounds like he’s stable so bring him to your regular veterinarian in the morning so they can diagnose and treat his problem. Blood in the poop can be from intestinal parasites, polpys or a mass, irritation of the intestines from eating bones, intestinal inflammation or from infected anal sacs. With one episode I’m not overly concerned about it as long as your dog is acting normal. If it continues I recommend a fecal test, have the anal sacs expressed, and palpate for a mass in the rectum.
